Stepper motor delivers up to 40% more torque

Portescap's hr stepper motor series

Portescap, a Danaher Motion company, has introduced the h3 stepper motor series. The company said these housed hybrid motors promise industry-leading torque output with increased performance, improved heat dissipation, and higher side and radial load capability compared with similar devices.

These 1.80 step motors are available in NEMA 17, 23 and 34 frame sizes. Various stack lengths are available in each frame size, and windings can be customized to suit individual application needs.

The aluminum housing of the h3 series provides superior heat dissipation to create higher output torque during operation, according to Portescap, and stator-enhanced magnets deliver up to 40 percent more torque in the same footprint as competing devices. Neodymium iron boron magnets offer efficient torque density while the bearing retainer and o-ring help reduce motor noise, the company said. Larger bearings enable the motor to effectively handle higher side and radial loads.

"The h3 is an ideal step motor solution in any number of medical equipment applications, and is also an idea solution in textile, semiconductor and electronic assembly applications," said Dave Beckstoffer, Portescap product manager.
