The desktop LCD monitor market rose slightly higher than forecast in Q2, jumping 3.1 percent to 29.8 million units shipped worldwide, according to data from DisplaySearch.

According to the market research firm's latest "Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report," the significant shipment growth into Latin America (up 37 percent quarter-over-quarter) and Greater China (up 26 percent quarter-over-quarter), along with growth in the market for wide desktop displays, especially in China, helped to boost shipments above the prior forecast of 29.6 million units.

Regionally, most of the growth in Q2 came from the emerging markets of Latin America and China, which grew 37 and 26 percent, respectively. However, China's growth has a greater overall impact due to the relative size of the market.

DisplaySearch further reported that the North America market showed a healthy growth rate of 8 percent, while EMEA showed a sequential decline of 10 percent. The North American penetration rate for wide LCD monitors was the greatest in Q2, rising up to 9.7 percent. But the largest growth rates came from China and Latin America, which witnessed quarter-over-quarter growth rates of 174.9 and 145.8 percent, respectively.

Additionally, DisplaySearch reported that 19-inch LCD monitors are becoming popular in China, accounting for 8.1 percent of the total units shipped in Q2.
