Spansion Inc. has embedded the CryptoFlash security technology from Discretix's into the memory supplier's security processor for devices targeted at mobile handsets.

The Israeli-US Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation, an organization that promotes strategic partnerships and joint research and development between companies from the two countries, plans to provide financial support for the technology cooperation, but Spansion and Discretix did not specify the level of support.

The Spansion Multi Chip Package (MCP) with the embedded CryptoFlash will be sampling from the first half of 2007. Depending on the handset configuration, the flash memory can also include Spansion's MirrorBit NOR Flash memory, or its MirrorBit ORNAND solutions, pSRAM or DRAM.

"By leveraging Discretix's cryptography expertise in embedded security solutions and Spansion's MirrorBit technology and system security expertise, we can introduce new classes of secure, mobile products and expand the market opportunities for our customers," said Spansion President and CEO Bertrand Cambou.

Gal Salomon, CEO and founder of Discretix, added, "Device theft and fraud are growing issues that require improved solutions to protect important personal and financial information now stored on the handset. Combining the advanced benefits of our CryptoFlash and Spansion's MirrorBit technology will create more secure memory solutions for the wireless market."
