Modulus Video Inc. announced it is shipping three configurations of its ME2000 family of MPEG-4 AVC video encoders. The company these video encoders are the first compact (one-rack unit) encoding platform that can easily switch between high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video. According to the company, ME2000 offers more than 25 percent reduction in bit rates while significantly enhancing video quality.

"Consumer expectations for new television service options are running very high and providers need every technical advantage possible to meet the challenge," said Anton Wahlman of ThinkEquity Partners LLC. "Modulus Video has emerged as an important player in this space and products like the ME2000 show that they clearly understand the challenge."

The ME2000 platform shares the features of the ME6000 HD IPTV encoding system and includes: (1) support for full resolution 1080i and 720P; (2) low resolution proxy for program guide, monitoring and Microsoft TV Picture in Picture (PIP); (3) support for ad insertion triggers to streamline revenue generating operations; (4) interoperability with leading system management tools; and, (5) support for 60Hz & 50Hz applications.

"The ME2000 family is the first of the next generation of MPEG-4 AVC encoding solutions. Modulus Video is again leading the market, being the first to deliver a switchable SD/HD product in 1 RU," said Modulus Video Chairman and CEO Bob Wilson. "The ME2000 family includes a no-compromise set of features and offers the lowest bit rates and the best video quality, so our customers can focus on building their businesses leveraging our industry leading solutions."

Three configurations of the new product family are available:

  • The ME2600 multi-format AVC encoder promises a powerful HD or SD encoding solution consuming sub-100W of power, providing the performance and features needed in high performance applications.

  • The ME2100 SD AVC encoder comes complete with powerful motion compensated noise reduction for optimal video quality while delivering performance and value. This SD platform also allows operators the option to purchase a software keyed HD upgrade at a later date.

  • The ME2020 SD AVC encoder is targeted at demanding SD applications, and offers the option to add powerful motion compensated noise reduction.
