Inotera Memories Inc. shared that it is optimistic for the DRAM market up to 2008. The company has confirmed its plan of advancing the passage of budget for second-stage capacity expansion at its second 12inch fab.

According to Charles Kao, president of Inotera, while the industry already has some 12inch fabs scheduled to become operational this year, most DRAM companies have yet to establish 12inch fabs this year, and are still waiting for the market situation to show signs of prolonged stability.

Kao added that production of 12inch fabs will increase in 2007. Microsoft's Windows Vista is also expected to push DRAM demand by end-2006, with compound annual growth rate of 40 to 50 percent. However, DRAM supply will experience a series of shortages since 40 percent of the 8inch fab output will be phased out.

Inotera's second 12inch fab is slated for equipment installation sometime in November. Test runs for the equipment are scheduled throughout the first half of next year. By end-2007, the company's total 12inch capacity is estimated at 92,000 wafers per month.
