One Stop Displays (OSD) said it has developed the industry's first 20x4 character PLED module. The OSD2004M01 display features low-current consumption and high contrast ratio, which makes it suitable for battery-, solar- or other low-power systems.
The OSD2004M01 design is mechanically equivalent to standard LCD-based 20x4 character display modules, which allows for easy integration into existing designs. The PLED character display requires a single power supply and operates on logic voltages from 2.8V to 5V. It draws less current than an equivalent array backlit LCD display, and features an industry standard LCD-compatible control interface (Samsung KS0066 and Hitachi HD44780 4bit and 8bit mode compatible).
The PLED display features a highly-uniform image with brightness of up to 100 nits. The display offers a better than 100:1 contrast ratio, and virtually no viewing angle limitations. Brightness is software controllable over the serial interface. Another benefit of emissive PLED technology is that contrast and response times are unaffected by temperature, said the company. This device may be used in both indoor and outdoor applications. This display is also offered with a Cyrillic font table.
The PLED is priced at $16 each in quantities of 1,000.
