BI Tech's SMHP power resistors

TT electronics BI Technologies SMT Division has developed a non-inductive power resistor rated up to 20W. The SMHP series are thermally efficient high-current resistors housed in a small, surface-mount TO-263 package suitable for high-density PCB installation. This design allows them to be directly mounted to a heat sink and make them suitable for automotive electronics, switchmode power supplies as well as high-frequency snubber and pulse handling circuits.

The SMHP series resistors offers a resistance value range from 0.01 to 220 ohms with values to 51 kiloohm available. The temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) values range from 50ppm/C to 250ppm/C with tolerances of 5 percent and 1 percent. The maximum operating voltage is 500V and the dielectric withstanding voltage is 2000Vdc. Thermal resistance is 3.3C/W from the resistor's "hot spot" to the package's metal flange. The operating temperature range is -55C to 155C. Custom specifications are available.

The SMHP series device is an extension of the company's MHP Series through-hole resistors. These surface-mount power resistors are also suitable for high precision CRT color video amplifiers, pulse generator load resistors, in-rush current protection and bleeder resistors.

Typical pricing for the SMHP series resistors is $1 to $1.60, depending on resistance value. Samples are available immediately for engineering evaluation and customer prototypes.
