Comeq, Unitech expect 36% increase on handset PCB shipments

PCB makers Compeq Mfg Co. Ltd and Unitech Printed Circuit Board Corp. expect their shipments of handset PCBs to rise by at least 36 percent this year, according to industry sources.
Compeq reportedly expects its 2006 shipments for handset application to increase by 36 percent to 42 percent. Its target shipment is from 190 million units to 200 million units this year, from 140 million units last year. Unitech also projects a 38 percent rise in shipment for the segment, hoping to achieve a shipment of 90 million units from 65 million PCBs in 2005.
Earlier, both Compeq and Unitech posted strong August sales, with robust growth in shipments of handset-use PCBs.
Together with Compeq and Unitech, Unimicron Technology Corp. and Wus Printed Circuit Co. Ltd take up 44 percent of the global market with combined shipments reaching 360 million units of handset PCBs in 2005. The companies' combined market shares this year are forecast to hit 57 percent.
