The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) in mainland China reports that import and export of electronic components in the first half of the year jumped by 31.4 percent to $32.4 billion. Import value for the sector went up by 29.3 percent to $18.7 billion and export values jumped by 34.4 percent to $13.7 billion.

Estimates reveal that the trade deficit for hybrid ICs was the highest among the segments, with $3.4 billion representing 67.8 percent of the total trade deficit for the whole electronic components sector. Capacitors, plug-in components, PCBs and sensors also registered trade deficits for the period. On the other hand, the highest trade surplus was that of electro-acoustic parts with $1.3 billion.

The report also says that mainland China's fixed assets investment went up in the first half. Additionally, total investments for the components sector increased by 44.9 percent year-on-year. MII notes that 436 new projects in the sector are in the offing, which accounts for 34.4 percent of the total new projects in the country's electronics industry.
