United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) reportedly has its 12inch fabs now running at 100 percent capacity amid increasing orders for RF ICs and graphics chips, according to a Digitimes report.
Last month, UMC reported a solidly profitably second quarter and predicted more of the same in Q3, with wafer shipments expected to be flat to 2 percent up and average selling prices expected to jump between 6 percent and 8 percent.
UMC had also earlier said that its overall capacity utilization rate this quarter will likely fall at 80 percent, with UMCi, its 300mm fab in Singapore, to have a utilization rate of over 90 percent. In addition, the company expects its 12inch fab in UMCi to start 65nm production next year.
