SMK Corp. has released a new IC socketthe CLC9070-0301Ffor SSOP or any high density mountable IC package typically used for internal mounting in game machines. The company said this 0.8mm spaced, 70-pole socket is designed for game and amusement machines, data communication equipment and measuring apparatuses.

According to SMK, a patent-pending locking system using its exclusive sliding lever mechanism has made one-piece sockets possible, which in turn reduces the manpower needed for IC mounting. Moreover, the sliding lever structure ensures better IC contact, relieves printed wiring boards from wear during insertion and extraction of ICs, and improves reliability of soldering. This RoHS-complaint product can be mounted automatically.

ICs can be inserted or extracted easily with a low operation force if a dedicated tool is used and have a voltage rating of 100Vac and current rating of 0.5A. These ICs operate over a temperature range of -25&176;C to 85C.

These IC sockets are already available and priced at $1.70.
