Portwell's new ROBO-8717VG2A SBC

Industrial PC maker Portwell Inc. has launched the new ROBO-8717VG2A single board computer (SBC) featuring the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The new SBC promises a combination of greater computing power and lower power consumption.

The device uses the energy-saving advantages of Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, which blends high bandwidth with the higher energy and execution efficiency of traditional NetBurst Microarchitecture (Pentium 4 processor) and Mobile Microarchitecture (Pentium M processor), and innovations such as wide dynamic execution, intelligent memory access, advanced power capability, multicore optimized cache and single-cycle SSE/2/3.

Available today, the new SBC delivers up to 65W TDP, a considerable improvement in low power consumption than the socket 478 processor with up to 84W TDP, the company said. This lower power consumption combined with greater computing power and network bandwidth makes the this SBC suitable for applications in medical equipment, industrial automation, kiosk, process control, semiconductor equipment and network security markets.

"The lower power consumption inherent in our new ROBO-8717VG2A SBC means that companies with mission-critical applications operating 24/7 can actually save money," says Eddie Hou, AVP of Portwell for VMS appliance. "But we didn't stop there. We ramped up the computing power, and we made sure it was easy for our customers to upgrade their existing single board computer system to the new ROBO-8717VG2A."

The ROBO-8717VG2A supports Intel Core 2 Duo, Pentium D, Pentium 4 or Celeron D in an LGA775 socket equipped with dual-core, hyper-threading, EM64T, EIST, XD and VT technologies. It includes PCI Express x1, dual GbE ports and four SATA 300 connectors for increased bandwidth; six USB 2.0 ports, dual serial ports and a parallel port; GPIO; and Watchdog timer.
