Now that identity and authentication management tools have migrated to client sites, it makes sense that content filtering would also move to remote and mobile endpoints. Vericept Corp., a specialist in centralized content analysis, has introduced Desktop 360 for monitoring traditional desktops, as well as laptops and removable peripherals.

Predictive analysis
Regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA have made it crucial to monitor details of the content of remote platforms, said Bob Sullebarger, Vericept's marketing VP. Vericept's tools use predictive analysis to spot some potential violations before they occur, in addition to doing post-violation analysis.

Vericept's enterprise tools, such as Content 360 and Discovery 360, perform online control and analysis during communications, as well as detailed forensic analysis on identified security violations. The Desktop 360 adjunct plays a role in the data center, watching for offline content violations through USB sticks and similar storage peripherals. But its broader role is in monitoring remote desktops, laptops and telecommuter clients.

The software constantly monitors confidential and critical data, analyzing changes, adds and deletes. Laptop content is protected even when the laptop is disconnected from any corporate VPN, and data can be protected from unauthorized copying, printing or mirroring to secondary storage sites.

The Vericept data center risk categories are replicated in the client product, and Risk Dashboards for network administrators monitor where violations take place. Embedded training tools with the 360 allow users to participate in self-compliance.
