VCOs deliver 'excellent' phase noise performance

Hittite Microwave Corp. has released a family of GaAs InGaP HBT MMIC VCOs with half frequency and divide-by-4 outputs that provide continuous frequency coverage from 8.45- to 13.9GHz.

The new line includes the HMC510LP5 (E), HMC534LP5 (E), HMC583LP5(E), and HMC584LP5 (E) VCOs that integrate resonators, negative resistance devices, and varactor diodes. Designed with a monolithic structure, each of these VCOs are said to exhibit excellent phase noise performance up to -116dBc/Hz at 100kHz over temperature, shock and process variations.

The power output ranges from 10- to 13dBm from a 5V supply voltage, and the prescaler and RF/2 functions may be disabled to conserve current if they are not required. These products are complete, wide frequency range VCOs that require no external matching components.

Available in compact, Pb-free QFN 5-by-5mm footprint compatible surface-mount packages, they are suitable for a wide range of applications including point-to-point/multipoint radio, SATCOM, military and test equipment applications.
