O2Micro International Ltd was issued five claims under U.S. patent number 7,096,298 for its Reduced PC Card Controller architecture.

The patented architecture provides a method of reducing a PC card chip area, signal count and board area. According to the company, the features enhance the design, manufacturability and implementation of ICs for laptops and other PC card-enabled systems.

The invention, said Max Huang, executive VP of O2Micro, lowers the total cost of implementing PC card connectivity and meets the demand of notebook customers for smaller geometries while improving the manufacturing flow of the PC card sub-system.
