Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) will begin full-scale marketing of its specialty gases next month for the South Korean market through its fully owned subsidiary Korea Showa Chemicals Co. (KSC) in Seoul. The operations will focus on the growing semiconductor and LCD market in South Korea.

In terms of shipments of semiconductors and LCDs, South Korea now accounts for 30 percent of the overall Asian market, sharing the leadership position with Taiwan, said the SDK press release. SDK is producing specialty gases at its Kawasaki Plant to support the market. Starting next month, KSC will take charge of product deliveries and technical support to better serve Korean customers.

In addition to such activities as receiving orders, providing technical/quality support and conducting market surveys, KSC will start building a specialty gas storage facility in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. The new facility, due for completion in the first half of 2007, will ensure timely delivery of specialty gases to customers in South Korea, said SDK.

Under the new setup, the Showa Denko Group will provide its specialty gases produced in Japan and Taiwan through five marketing units located in Japan, Taiwan, China, Singapore and South Korea.
