China ministry funds Spreadtrum's CMOS project

The Electronic Development Fund of the Ministry of Information Industry of China recently publicized that it would provide funding for a core CMOS chip and another project of Shanghai-based Spreadtrum Communications Co. Ltd.
According to the press release, the chip will be made for information technology advanced A/V coding standard (AVS) applied in the field of significant information industry such as high-resolution digital broadcast, high-density laser-digital storage media, wireless broadband multimedia communications, and internet broadband stream media.
Besides the AVS Project, the ''Core Technology for TD-SCDMA and the Industrialization of Terminal Products'' project applied by Spreadtrum and Hisense also gained the support from the Electronic Development Fund of MII.
