IAR unrolls embedded tool suite for Renesas H8

IAR Systems has launched IAR Embedded Workbench V2.10 for Renesas H8 (EWH8), a suite of essential build and debug tools for embedded projects using both C and C++.

According to company, the new version allows professional developers of embedded systems based on the H8S microcontroller from Renesas to develop and optimize their applications in C/C++ within IAR's Embedded Workbench programming environment. Added features include support for third-party RTOS and support for ORTI and MISRA, which enables adherence of both the development process and the resulting applications to established industry standards.

In addition, EWH8 includes a completely rewritten compiler and debugger with support for C++ as well as C, which offers the benefits of object-oriented programming while still generating the most compact and efficient code for the H8 MCU. The integral IAR C-SPY debugger offers a choice of drivers for its simulator, as well as Renesas E8 and E10A-USB emulators, making EWH8 a complete environment for development and debugging.

As with all the IAR Embedded Workbench family, the new suite operates in an integrated, feature-rich graphical development environment that provides a user-friendly platform for continuous workflow. In addition to the features available in Renesas' own High-Performance Embedded Workshop, the open architecture of IAR Embedded Workbench offers the benefit of allowing the use of RTOS and other plug-in modules from third party tool suppliers including, Segger embOS and Micrium ?C/OS-II.

IAR Embedded Workbench is available for a wide range of MCUs from Renesas, including M16C, R8C/Tiny and M32C as well as H8, and offers comprehensive support for all the relevant emulators.
