Trapeze Networks Inc. has added the intrusion detection/prevention system of its OEM partner AirDefense Inc. into its Mobility System 5.0. Trapeze's CTO, Dan Simone, said that several WLAN switching systems offer overlay anti-intrusion capabilities, but the 5.0 release integrates the security functions directly into the wireless infrastructure.

This allows a common hardware platform to be used as both access point and sensor. Mobility points are only configured once, adds and changes are handled automatically. Trapeze's RingMaster management software automatically correlates all alarm conditions spotted through the AirDefense tools. The security software identifies more than 200 attack types, and it meets the United States Defense Department's Common Criteria certification program.

Release 5.0 adds support for longer battery life in voice-over-Wi-Fi handsets, and the traffic specification bandwidth control mechanisms within 802.11e. Trapeze also supports 802.11v for regulating call load.

RingMaster software has been updated to support full analysis of real-time comparisons with historical data, and fault correlation and location throughout the network. Real-time location support scales to more than 10,000 tags.
