South Korean firm claims 'slimmest' camera modules

LG Innotek, one of South Korea's digital component makers, said it has developed two types of 2Mpixel modules for camera phones, claiming these are the world's slimmest such modules.

The company said its 2Mpixel, 4.35mm-slim camera module (8-by-8-by-4.35mm), with an aspheric, fixed-focus lens, uses the company's "ultraslim" packaging technology.

The othera 2Mpixel, 5mm slim camera module (8.5-by-8.5-by-5mm)features an aspheric, auto-focus lens and the company's proprietary small, low-power-consumption actuator, for which an ultrasmall voice coil motor developed by the company is employed, LG Innotek added.

LG Innotek, an affiliate of South Korea's electronics giant LG Group, has introduced its ultraslim product lineupsincluding camera and LCD modules, side-view LEDs and RF full modulesto help global handset makers offer slimmer products.
