Chartered Semi invests in Taiwan-based design services firm

Chartered Semiconductor disclosed early this week an Investment in Taiwan-based design services firm Gateway Silicon that the foundry said would broaden its range of solutions.
The amount of Chartered's investment in the ASIC/SoC design specialist was not disclosed, but Chartered said that Gateway's parent, Macronix International, would continue to hold a majority stake in the company.
Chartered and Gateway plan to collaborate on the development and optimization of design services while applying Gateway's expertise to Chartered's value-added solutions. The company's portfolio targets specialized segments of the wireless, consumer and industrial markets, such as nonvolatile memory, high-voltage devices for display drivers and digital TV tuners, RFID tags and low-power products.
