Kingston Technology Co. Inc. recently announced it is offering a full production launch of 2Gbyte 533MHz and 667MHz ValueRAM SO-DIMMs concurrent with the release of new 800MHz ValueRAM SO-DIMMs. The new larger capacity, high-performance memory modules are designed to meet the growing demands of notebook computers and miniPCs, the company said, while the faster-speed SO-DIMMs are in preparation for the industry migration to the 800 MHz platform.

"With the advancements in mobile and small form factor PCs, the need for high density SO-DIMM memory is increasing," said Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager, Kingston. "Combining Kingston's 2Gbyte SO-DIMM memory with AOpen miniPCs or notebooks with partners like MSI creates an ideal computing platform for customers demanding high performance," added Tekunoff.

Key features of the new devices:

  • 1.8V operation, promising 50 percent less power usage

  • Memory signal termination inside the memory chip prevents reflected signal transmission errors

  • CAS latency: 4, 5 (ValueRAM 2Gbyte 533MHz, 667MHz); 5 (ValueRAM 800MHz SO-DIMM)

The KVR533D2S4/2G 2Gbyte 533MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL4 (SO-DIMM) is priced at $589; the KVR667D2S5/2G 2Gbyte 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 (SO-DIMM) at $640; the KVR800D2S5/512 512Mbyte 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 (SO-DIMM) at $108; and the KVR800D2S5/1GB 1Gbyte 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 (SO-DIMM) at $210.
