iWave Systems Technologies Pvt. Ltd, an Indian embedded hardware and software design services company, has opened a center in Tokyo to develop embedded systems for mobile, handheld and data communications. It will soon add work on embedded systems for automobile applications.

Five engineers from India are on-boardworking on operating systems, driver development and FPGA-based designsbut that number will rise to 20, including Japanese engineers, said M. Abdullah Khan, director of engineering for iWave.

One of iWave's main designs include the Rainbow, a handheld mobility platform based on Intel Corp.'s PXA 27x processor, which can be used to build PDAs, smart phones and media players. Another is based on the Freescale iMX27 processor for enabling consumer and industrial product designs with support for wireless streaming, media codec and security features. The 86SoC design providing instruction set compatibility to 80186 type designs with multiple peripherals, fits into a single Spartan-3 series FPGA.

The company is seeking a strategic partner in technology and marketing, Khan said, to tap into U.S. and European markets.
