Qimonda AG has launched its 183MHz double data rate synchronous Mobile-RAM (DDR366), offering a capacity of 512Mbit in a 60-ball FBGA package with 1.8V power supply. The device meets the JEDEC DDR standard.
"The increasing popularity of portable devices from multimedia mobile phones to MP3 audio/video players and digital cameras, drives the needs for high-performance and low power memory solutions," said Thomas Seifert, member of the management board at Qimonda. "As these mobile electronics products feature more and more functionality, key components such as memory must be able to support high performance features while not straining the overall power budget."
Qimonda claims the device's data rate of 366Mbps is 30 percent faster than standard DDR266 DRAM. This enhanced performance is achieved with a conventional BGA package, requiring no change in the system design.
Qimonda ships SDR and DDR Mobile-RAM with densities up to 512Mbit, at 2.5V and 1.8V supply voltage and speeds up to 183MHz. Engineering samples of the 183MHz DDR366 Mobile-RAM with a density of 512Mbit in a 60-ball FBGA package and 1.8V power supply are available today. Pricing was not released.
