HCL Technologies Ltd is forming a joint venture with EMS firm Celestica Inc. of Canada to provide complete concept-to-manufacturing solutions for OEMs. HCL called it the first time such a complete solution was being offered.

The joint venture will provide product concept, design, manufacturing, fulfillment and supply chain solutions and is said to be a new kind of model in the electronics industry. It will give OEMs a single point of contactsomething, the partners insist, that has been lacking in the industry until now.

HCL and Celestica have partnered for three years, but the joint venture announced will take that partnership to a new level. Celestica has an Indian presence already, through the acquisition of an electronics manufacturing firm in Hyderabad in southern India.

"By recognizing the increasing complexity of the marketplace, including rapidly changing customer demand, and the difficulties of managing multiple partners at different stages of the product life cycle, a new market is being created through this joint venture," said Vineet Nayar, president of HCL. "It removes a level of complexity, allowing OEM customers to focus on their core business and strategic initiatives."
