Freescale Semiconductor Inc. has joined the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA), an open, industry-driven initiative promoting distribution of digital video and entertainment through existing coaxial cable in the home.

"Freescale supports key industry efforts such as MoCA that simplify distribution of triple-play content throughout the home," said Nikolay Guenov, worldwide vertical marketing manager of Freescale's fixed consumer segment. "This technology helps create demand for content delivery and playback devices by streamlining the connection between residential gateway portals and end-point devices."

Freescale delivers advanced processors based on its proprietary Power Architecture technology and optimized for cost-sensitive home networking applications.

"For decades, Freescale has been a leading supplier of silicon for many products that can also use the MoCA specification," said Ladd Wardani, president of MoCA. "They are a crucial silicon integration and cost reduction source that the industry welcomes. Freescale's membership is another endorsement of the MoCA specification as the key standard for delivering digital entertainment in and around the home using existing coaxial cabling."

MoCA technology provides home entertainment networks of multiple wired and wirelesses products. Membership in the alliance provides access to MoCA's intellectual property under reasonable and non-discriminatory licensing terms, as well as the ability to certify MoCA compliance of designs.
