Sales of large-sized TFT LCD panels in the first half of 2007 will post growth compared to sales in the second half of 2006, reported iSuppli Corp.

Instead of the usual low season in the first half of the year, shipments from the segment will jump from 145.3 million units in the second half of 2006 to 154.3 million units in the first half of 2007, the research firm forecasted.

iSuppli cited this season's tight supply through end-2006 as the driving force of the upcoming robust demand. Consumer demand will remain high until December because of declining prices of monitors and LCD TVs. Panel inventories were mostly adjusted in the third quarter, and panel and system makers and vendors are keeping slightly lower inventories in case demand for the holiday season is not as high as expected.

Panel makers are said to be delaying expansion plans and reducing their orders for components. iSuppli noted that this behavior from the makers differ from last year's aggressive capacity increases, having expected strong demand for LCD TV due to the World Cup event earlier this year.

However, iSuppli noted that this year's limited capacity added to the usual holiday season demand and the introduction of Microsoft's Vista OS will likely boost demand for the large-sized TFT LCD panels in the early part of 2007.
