Microsoft Corp. has acquired a 10 percent equity stake in TCS China, a joint venture IT services firm working with software services giant Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) and three companies owned by the Chinese government.

The amount paid by Microsoft for its equity stake was not disclosed. TCS will now own 65 percent of the joint venture while its Chinese partners together will hold 25 percent. The joint venture was formed last year.

The partners will reportedly focus on telecommunications and providing IT services to the government sector. It is also expected to focus on technologies being developed at Microsoft's centers of excellence in India.
