Pericom Semiconductor Corp. has introduced a bridging chip to link PCI-X and PCIe. The P17C9X130 links directly to a PCIe root complex, tying a four-channel PCIe port to a PCI-X domain.

The bridge is fully reversible and operates at 66MHz PCI or 133MHz PCI-X speeds, in transparent and nontransparent modes. The I/O pins are 5V-tolerant. The data channel accommodates payloads of up to 512bytes.

The P17C9X130 is packaged in a 17-by-17mm RoHS-compliant, Pb-free 256-lead BGA. The device has seven GPIO pins and supports six masters. It is priced at $20.95 each in orders of 10,000 units.
