Phone tester adds option for China's TD-SCDMA

Willtek's 4400 mobile phone tester with TD-SCDMA option

Targeting China's future wireless 3G TD-SCDMA standard, test-and-measurement house Willtek Communications announced an option for its existing 4400 Mobile Phone Tester Series. The option is designed to speed integration testing and production of TD-SCDMA cellphones. The 4400 also covers all other major wireless standards, including GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, CDMA2000 and 1xEV-DO.

Since China manufacturers produce phones for countries applying these multiple standards, testers need to accommodate them. Moreover, the Willtek 4400 can be switched between different 2G and 3G wireless technologies.

Willtek's TD-SCDMA Call Mode Option complements the non-call mode option for the 4400 Mobile Phone Tester Series. These products thereby integrate all functions necessary to calibrate transmitter and receiver sections of a phone, performing functional tests and carrying out final testing prior to shipment.

"The 4400 with TD-SCDMA option will not only be cheaper, but also much faster than most rack-and-stack equipment currently being used by many integration teams," said Matthias Weber, director of product marketing at Willtek Communications. "What's more," he added, "the call-mode option comes right in time before the start of TD-SCDMA phone mass production."

Weber also noted that Willtek's support team in Shanghai has already helped a number of developers in China, with backup from an R&D team in the firm's German headquarters.

The 4400 with TD-SCDMA supports the call setup and all important transmitter and receiver measurements for validation, functional testing and calibration. Measurements include peak power and average power, open loop and inner loop power, EVM, frequency error and peak code domain power. The instrument can also display spectrum, constellation, BER and BLER.

The 4400 can also ease successful interoperability tests. Major signaling functions are based on the Datang protocol stack, while other protocol parts have been developed in cooperation with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

The 4400 with the TD-SCDMA options and fast power measurements lets production sites use it to align a phone's transmitter. It does that rapidly, increasing production throughput and quality of devices. Willtek contends the system provides vendors with low total test cost-per-wireless device.

And, as all major cellular standards are available on the 4400 Series, it promises to drastically reduce production downtime, as one test station can switch from one technology to another.
