Silicon Image Inc. unveiled its latest High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) transmitter chip for use in STBs, DVD recorders and DVD players.

The chip, dubbed VastLane SiI9034, is an HDMI version 1.2 transmitter that builds on the company's SiI9030 chip, adding support for the Super Audio CD format.

The SiI9034 is pin-compatible with Silicon Image's SiI9134 Deep Color transmitter, enabling manufacturers to convert from HDMI 1.2 to HDMI 1.3, said the press release. Like the SiI9030, the SiI9034 supports 1080-progressive (1080p) high-definition video output and the DVD-Audio format, the company said.

"It's important for us to offer our set-top box and DVD player customers a cost-competitive HDMI 1.2 transmitter to enhance the breadth of our family of transmitters," said Ron Richter, Silicon Image's director of HDMI transmitter and IP products. "When customers are ready to migrate to HDMI 1.3, the pin design of the SiI9034 makes that process simple."

Samples of the SiI9034 are currently available, Silicon Image said, with production planned early this month. Pricing information was not disclosed.
