Alereon Inc. has received a $4 million cash infusion from Samsung Venture Investment Corp. for further development of ultrawideband (UWB) and Certified Wireless USB (WUSB) PHY chips.

CEO Eric Brockman at Alereon said the company anticipates collaborating with Samsung Electronics on the integration of UWB and WUSB devices in consumer electronic products.

The company also is no stranger to the consumer market as it worked with Kodak on integrating a Wireless USB chip set in a demonstration digital camera for transferring digital images between a camera and laptop. Alereon is working on solutions above PHY, and worked on their own MAC logic for the Kodak prototype.
