Wintegra access processor suits security-intensive apps

Wintegra Inc. has announced that WinPath2, its next-generation access processor, is now shipping to first customers. The company said its WinPath1 silicon family and the wide selection of networking software are the preferred solution of numerous networking and communication system providers including Tier 1 telecom manufacturers. Now WinPath2 devices leverage the silicon architecture and utilize the suite of production-quality datapath software available with earlier family members.

WinPath2 extends the architecture started with the original WinPath family by using six data processing elements (WinGines) instead of four. This change extends the performance of WinPath1 by more than doubling the processing capability for the datapath. These WinGines are decoupled from the control path processor to better fine-tune overall system performance and power. They are RAM based, ensuring "future proofing" of current designs by enabling a software download to upgrade to evolving protocol standards, such as WT-101 in DSL and new 3GPP standards in wireless.

Wireless and other security-intensive applications are supported with the addition of on-board processing blocks for a wide range of confidentiality and authentication processing. Additionally, WinPath2 Ethernet capabilities were enhanced to address the expanding, IP-based markets. A new MIPS core, the 24Kc, has been added, providing twice the control path processing power of WinPath1.

WinPath2 not only provides optimized solutions for the markets addressed by WinPath1, such as DSLAMs, access routers, BPON systems, integrated voice and data systems and wireless transport, but also addresses new market segments such as 3G wireless channel cards, GPON, WiMAX, multiservice provisioning platforms, multiservice access routers and sophisticated triple-play systems.
