ON Semiconductor has introduced the NUP45V6 series of low-capacitance electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection diode arrays in an ultra-small SOT-953 package. Measuring 1-by-1-by-0.5 mm, these ESD devices are suitable for any application where board space is at a premium, including cellphones, digital cameras, PDAs as well as any other portable, wireless and computing products.

ON Semiconductor said these devices are the industry's first protection diode arrays to be offered in an ultra-thin SOT-953 package. The SOT-953 packaged devices are 60 percent smaller than the SOT-553 ESD protection diode arrays, and provide a 30 percent space savings compared to the 1-by-1.45mm Micro-QFN package.

The NUP45V6 series offers four independent lines of protection from ESD and other harmful transient voltage events. This series includes devices with protection voltages of 5.6-, 6.8- and 12V and provide IEC61000 Level 4-2 ESD performance.

Because of their small size, these diodes can be placed near input/output ports to suppress the transient voltage before it can be coupled into the rest of the board. The ESD protection devices deliver low capacitance of less than 7pF at 3V, and low leakage current of less than 0.15A.

The NUP45V6, NUP46V8 and NUP412V ESD protection diode arrays are priced at 12 cents in quantities of 10,000.
