Rohde & Schwarz has introduced the R&S ZVA40, a network analyzer with a frequency range of 10MHz to 40GHz. This instrument allows users to perform measurements on passive and active components as well as antenna measurements in radar/satellite applications.

Featuring an output power of more than 18dBm, a dynamic range greater than 150dB and a measurement speed of 3.5?s per test point, the R&S ZVA40 is a suitable tool for R&D in microwave applications.

Whenever measurements require a high RF performance or users have to characterize the DUT in the operating state, a flexible and powerful network analyzer is necessary. With this new instrument, Rohde & Schwarz adds another instrument to its high-end R&S ZVA network analyzer family, which now includes models with two and four test ports for the frequency range up to 8GHz, 24GHz or 40GHz.

The R&S ZVA40 is based on a fundamental mixing concept and allows users to perform measurements with high sensitivity and large dynamic range. Since it features independent and extremely quick synthesizers for generators and receivers, it allows short measurement times. The instrument is suited for sophisticated measurements on passive and frequency-converting DUTs such as mixers, amplifiers and converters.

The R&S ZVA40's high output level and power sweep range of more than 40dB allow the transmission and compression characteristics of amplifiers and mixers to be analyzed without using additional preamplifiers. The network analyzer can also be easily integrated as a receiver and control unit for performing antenna, RCS and radar measurements.

Intuitive operation
Like other instruments in the company's network analyzer family, the R&S ZVA40 features an easy and intuitive operating concept. Users don't have to be specialists in network analysis to be able to perform sophisticated measurements quickly and generate comprehensive documentation. Convenient wizards explain all important operating steps by displaying them as graphics, and provide all the basic settings. In addition, extensive online help including detailed examples is provided. The instrument's Windows XP-based user interface allows Rohde & Schwarz service technicians to solve problems by means of remote diagnosis via a remote desktop.

Various instrument setups can be stored on the integrated hard disk and recalled by pressing a button or using the mouse or a control command. For each trace, up to 20,001 points can be measured and evaluated by means of convenient marker and analysis functions. Other highlights of the R&S ZVA40 include flexible display options, versatile mathematical functions, an embedding/de-embedding function using virtual networks for impedance matching, and comprehensive automatic calibration functions.

The R&S ZVA40 with two ports is available today from Rohde & Schwarz.
