As a key component of its global innovation efforts, BEA Systems Inc. has opened its third R&D center in Korea, which will focus on delivering service-oriented architecture (SOA) and telecommunications solutions to the domestic market.

"Korea is an important and rapidly growing market for BEA," said Hyunglae Kim, vice president and country manager, BEA Korea. He added that their company aims to deliver SOA and telecommunications solutions tailored to the needs of their Korean customers.

The Seoul-based R&D center will promote cooperation with domestic solution vendors to help create optimized solutions for the local market. The center has already started working on various R&D projects for the telecommunication industry alongside several domestic solution vendors, including government agencies, university laboratories, third-party solution vendors in telco industry and other major telco companies.

"Korea offers one of the best telecommunication technology and service markets in the world and BEA is poised to help deliver SOA solutions designed to help achieve business transformation and optimization to large vendors in the country," said Wai Wong, executive VP, Products, BEA Systems. "We believe there is huge potential in Korea's emerging markets and plan to leverage BEA's pool of professionals and work closely with local business partners. We have enjoyed 10 years of working side-by-side with Korean customers, and look forward to many more years in the future."

BEA appointed Hanju Kim as head of the Korea R&D center. Kim will report Yip Ly, BEA System's VP of strategic business development in Asia Pacific.
