New Japan Radio Co. Ltd has announced the NJM2884, an ON/OFF-function-equipped, 500mA-output LDO, suitable for use in today's increasingly integrated A/V equipment and PC devices.

Today's multifunction A/V devices, including DVD recorders and players, require a highly integrated board and large current supply capability. To meet these demands, New Japan Radio offers the NJM2884, an LDO that handles larger current in a smaller space.

The NJM2884 is housed in the compact SOT-89-5 (4.5-by-4.5-by-1.5mm), which is 68 percent smaller than a conventional TO252 (6.54-by-9.68-by-2.29mm), and incorporates a noise bypass capacitor for space-saving, making it perfect for highly integrated A/V devices and PC devices.

Moreover, the NJM2884 is configured with bipolar processing, a reference voltage circuit, an error amplifier circuit, output power transistor, and features thermal overload protection and a shortcircuit current limit. It also features a 500mA output current, 0.1 percent output voltage accuracy, compatibility with small 2.2?F ceramic capacitors, low noise (45?Vrms typ.), and high ripple rejection ratio (75dB at f = 1kHz, Vo = 3V).

The NJM2884 is also suitable for portable devices such as mobile communication devices that require space-saving on the board.

Engineering samples and production volumes of the NJM2884 are available. Pricing is at 42 cents per unit.
