Motor driver controls two DC motors at 2.4A

Allegro MicroSystems Inc. has announced a DMOS full-bridge PWM motor driver designed to control two DC motors at currents up to 2.4A. Capable of drive voltages up to 36V, the A3995 PWM motor driver includes two independent fixed off-time PWM current regulators that operate in either fast or slow decay mode, determined by the MODE input. This new motor driver is targeted at the office automation and industrial markets.

Internal synchronous rectification control circuitry is provided to improve power dissipation during PWM operation. PHASE, ENABLE and MODE inputs are provided for use in controlling the speed, torque, direction and brake and coast functions of a DC motor. Protection features include thermal shutdown with hysteresis, undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and crossover current protection. Special power-up sequencing is not required.

Allegro's 3995 is supplied in a Pb-free 36L QFN package with exposed power tab for enhanced thermal dissipation. It has a 6-by-6mm footprint and 0.90mm nominal height.
