Conexant Systems Inc. announced what it touts as the industry's highest density and most interoperable VDSL2/ADSL2plus convergence product for central office (CO) applications.

The second-generation Accelity-2 chipset delivers downstream speeds beyond 140Mbps and is targeted at triple-play voice, video and data equipment such as digital subscriber line access multiplexers, digital loop carriers and remote terminals.

Applications include advanced broadband-enabled services, including delivering television programming over Internet Protocol (IPTV), video-on-demand and online gaming.

The Accelity-2 VDSL2 CO product provides ADSL fallback capability that is based on the company's interoperable ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2plus source code, and is fully compatible with legacy xDSL standards. The converged VDSL2 and ADSL capabilities are aimed at providing operators with the most flexible and lowest cost product for provisioning multiple services and extending their service coverage.

According to Conexant, the Accelity-2 chipset enables the lowest per port VDSL2 line card cost by delivering the industry's highest per port density, allowing system vendors to support the maximum number of ports on existing line cards. Accelity-2 features a VDSL bonding capability that allows service providers to deliver IPTV services to a wider subscriber base, and expand their revenue-generating potential.

The Accelity-2 chipset is available in sample quantities now, with production scheduled for March 2007. The chipset includes a VDSL2/ADSL2plus 8-port DSP, and a four-port analog front-end chip. It is priced at $12 per port in volume quantities.
