Powerchip Semiconductor Corp.'s outlook for the year remains bright as its 70nm production expansion will result in a 50 percent supply increase in 2007, according to PSC chairman Frank Huang. December sales revenue of the chip manufacturer went up 3 percent to about $35 million, and its total earnings for 2006 jumped 78.5 percent to about $281.65 million.

PSC vice president Eric Tang said that the company's capacity at its 12-inch fabs surpassed the 110,000-wafer mark. One of these facilities, the 12M fab, targets a monthly capacity between 15,000 and 20,000 wafers this year.

Tang added that PSC plans to boost capacity further when its joint venture with Elpida Memory Inc. starts volume production in the second half and after commencing 70nm production.

PSC has completed pilot runs on 70nm production late last year, and will begin production operations this quarter, said Huang. He also noted that production costs would be reduced by more than 30 percent.
