Memory chipmaker ProMOS Technologies Inc. will put up its first China plant in Chonqing. ProMOS vice president Ben Tseng reportedly said that the company will invest $365 million to build the fab. Meanwhile, the regional government of Chonqing will allot $200 million for the initial construction of the facility. ProMOS will then "rent" the fab from the government, Tseng added.

Volume production will begin in the second half of 2008, with monthly capacity of up to 60,000 wafers. Initial production, however, will have a monthly capacity of between 20,000 and 25,000 wafers.
