December shipments of large-sized panels slip

Global shipments of large-sized LCD panels in December fell by 13.3 percent sequentially to 22.8 million units, noted market research firm WitsView. Key factors to this downtrend were the weak seasonal demand and inventory checks by panel makers.

In mainstream applications, TV panels recorded a 19.6 percent decline from 5.7 million units to 4.6 million units. LCD panels used in monitors dropped 12.9 percent from 13.3 million units to 11.5 million units. December shipments of notebook panels also fell by 9.3 percent on-month from 7.28 million units to 6.6 million units.

In terms of total shipments by area, shipments of large-sized panels also decreased by 12.8 percent sequentially to 3.2 million m?. TV panels slumped by 14.2 percent to 1.49 million m? while notebook panels dropped by 8.3 percent to 460,000 m? and monitor panels fell by 12.7 percent to 1.26 million m?.
