SMK touts 'smallest' microSD card connector
Keywords:microSD? TransFlash? memory cards? SMK? card connector?
SMK this month is introducing a microSD card connector for the ultrasmall microSD (TransFlash) memory cards that are currently popular. With a height of 1.65mm when mounted, depth of 12.9mm and width of 11.4mm, this connector is among the industry's smallest, according to the company. Such dimensions optimize the size advantage microSD and contribute to thinner and smaller equipment design. This also represents a 78 percent reduction in volume from the company's previous miniSD card connector.
Card insertion/removal is through a manual sliding system with a regular-type insertion direction. It features a card sensing switch that detects if a card is backwards. A half-locking mechanism holds cards and prevents them from flying out upon removal. Its shield cover employs a mechanism that enhances shielding performance and connector strength.
The device has a voltage and current rating of 0.5A, 5V AC/DC and an operating life of 10,000 cycles. It is also RoHS-compliant.
