Advancing its stake in the flash memory market, Spansion Inc. unveiled product roadmaps for its MirrorBit HD-SIM family, which will include both single-chip and dual-chip offerings, featuring a range of storage capacity from 4Mbyte-1GBytes.

Based on the product roadmap, single-chip, 90nm, 64Mbytes devices will be sampling in Q2 and will begin production starting Q3. The single-chip, 90nm, 16Mbytes products will be sampling in Q3 and in production at the end of Q3.

The dual-chip solutions at 64Mbytes and 128Mbytes are sampling now, and are undergoing production this quarter. Moreover, Spansion plans to introduce additional HD-SIM solutions at 65nm and 45nm ranging from 4Mbytes to 1Gbyte.

"The SIM card has always been used to store subscriber information. The increase of a more mobile society with richer multimedia content available is creating the need for higher levels of security and opening the potential for higher revenue business models with SIM cards," said Jean-Marc Julia, VP of smart card division, Spansion. "Spansion will deliver added-value solutions to SIM card manufacturers and their customers with MirrorBit HD-SIM solution's higher capacity, more secure and flexible features for SIM card personalization-the loading of data on SIM cards."

Spansion's Submicron Development Center in Silicon Valley has recently completed its transition from 200mm to 300mm. The company plans to transfer the 300mm process to its new SP1 300mm manufacturing facility in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan as it becomes operational. Spansion disclosed that it will produce 65nm MirrorBit flash memory devices at SP1 later this year, followed by 45nm in production by mid 2008.

According to recent reports from market research firm iSuppli Corp., Spansion ranked as the top NOR flash vendor for 2006, displacing longtime market leader Intel from the post.
