Micron Technology Inc. has launched a new family of image sensors at 3GSM World Congress that range in resolution from 5-, 3- and 1.3Mpixel for next-generation camera phones. The camera phone sensors were developed using a tiny 1.75?m pixel design.

Enabling consumers to capture high-quality images and high-definition video from a camera phone, the new image sensors also come in smaller packages to fit thinner phone designs while maintaining picture quality. The new CMOS image sensor line-up includes the 5Mpixel MT9P012, the 3Mpixel MT9T013 and 1.3Mpixel MT9M113.

The MT9P012 fits into a 1/3.2-inch optical format and captures video at 60fps at 720p and 30fps at 1080p for high-definition video capture. The MT9T013 fits into the standard camera phone 1/4-inch optical format and captures VGA video at 30fps and the MT9M113 is a completely integrated camera system on chip and fits into an ultratiny 1/11-inch optical format. This sensor also captures VGA video at 30fps.

General customer sampling for the 5Mpixel and 3Mpixel sensors is planned for Q2 2007 and the 1.3Mpixel sensor is expected to sample in late Q1 2007. Mass production is expected Q3 2007.
