WJ Communications Inc. has entered into an agreement with South Korea's SK Telecom (SKT) to develop RFID solutions designed for cellular mobile handsets.

According to the press release, leveraging WJ's WJC200 Gen2 RFID UHF reader chipset will allow SKT's partners to design and manufacture RFID dongle accessories that can be connected to cellular mobile handsets from SKT.

"SKT evaluated the WJC200 chipset and was extremely impressed with its high performance; and decided to select WJ as the sole foreign supplier of RFID reader chipsets for the Korean mobile market," said Jun H. Kim, from SK Telecom.

"Now with the introduction of WJC200, a Gen2 RFID UHF reader chipset, and this historic agreement with SKT, we are now establishing ourselves as the leader in supplying RFID solutions to the cellular mobile handset market, which is projected to grow to over one billion mobile handset shipped in 2007," said Haresh Patel, SVP of sales and marketing for WJ. "This is a significant milestone for WJ and it will further drive interests in the RFID industry."
