SiP with 8bit MCU, LIN transceiver rolls for automotive apps

Aimed at LIN applications, Atmel Corp.'s ATA6602 and ATA6603 multichip modules combine an 8bit AVR MCU and a LIN system basis chip (LIN SBC) in a system-in-package (SiP) without internal connections.

The ATA6602 integrates the automotive-qualified ATmega88 AVR flash MCU with 8Kbytes of flash memory. And the ATA6603 incorporates the automotive- qualified ATmega168 with a flash memory of 16Kbytes.

The ATA6602 and ATA6603 ICs offer a high level of integration. They include the MCU, voltage regulator, LIN transceiver and watchdog in one package covering the complete basic functionality of a LIN node.

According to Atmel, the ATA6602 and ATA6603 ICs deliver minimum space requirements, shorter time-to-market due to the simpler system design, and lower sourcing, logistics and assembly cost.

The ATA6602 and ATA6603 ICs are designed for automotive actuator applications typically found in comfort electronics (e.g., window lifter, mirror or seat adjuster) as well as in powertrain applications. Their small size also makes the ATA6602 and ATA6603 suitable for sensor node applications such as control panels, air quality, rain/sun sensors and many more.

Pricing for the ATA6602 is $1.87 and for the ATA6603 it's $1.99 in 10,000 pieces.

Samples of the ATA6602 and ATA6603 in QFN48 (7-by-7mm) packages are available today.
