Electronic tube, semiconductor and sensor supplier e2v Technologies plc has selected Israel foundry Tower Semiconductor Ltd to be its supply CMOS image sensors.

The two companies are going to work together to produce SoC sensors for industrial and medical applications. The CMOS sensors will be produced in Tower's Fab 2, using a 0.18? process. The companies are focused on 10 development projects.

"With Tower's state-of-the-art CMOS image sensor manufacturing process, their unique stitching technology and clear desire to work with us in developing our business, it became an obvious choice for us to select Tower" said Jean-Philippe Lamarcq, general manager of the imaging business unit at e2v, Grenoble.

Atmel Corp. agreed to sell its Grenoble, France subsidiary and wafer fab to e2v technologies plc for approximately $140 million in cash in July 2006.

"The selection by e2v is the result of a two-year joint development program between Tower and the Grenoble facility as well as the major technology breakthroughs we have demonstrated," said Avi Strum, general manager of the CMOS image sensor product line at Tower, in the same statement.
