USB DAQ module suits industrial process control

Future Technology Devices International Ltd (FTDI) launched the DLP-IO8-G, an 8-channel USB DAQ module.

Future's 8-channel USB DAQ module provides a low-cost and convenient method of acquiring temperature data, measuring voltage and providing digital control.

Independently configurable
The eight channels can be independently configured to digital I/O, analog input or temperature mode by use of a single byte command. The DLP-IO8-G is attached to a USB cable with a type A plug and powered directly from the host USB port. The device is compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 interface specifications.

The module is suited to the quick deployment of a wide variety of industrial process control and monitoring applications. Its compact size, measuring just 62.7-by-22.6mm also makes it suitable for desktop prototyping and evaluation.

Using the on-board 10bit ADC, voltage measurements read from 0 to 5V range. Temperature readings, using an optional digital temperature sensor, can measure from -55C to 125 C. Digital output mode allows setting low or high while the input mode can read the high or low state.

OS support
Device drivers for all popular OS are available from the FTDI Website and are royalty free. Based on a previous device, the module has recently been redesigned and is now Pb-free.

The DLP-IO8-G is priced at $29.95 each.
