Knowledge-based processor developer NetLogic Microsystems Inc. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) announced that NetLogic's NL71024 knowledge-based processor has been validated on TSMC's 80nm-GC process, which lowers active and standby power for improved performance.

According to the press release, NetLogic's NL71024 knowledge-based processor offers the advanced parallel processing capabilities with database capacity to enable quadruple-play (convergence of voice, video, data and mobility) and IPv6 applications.

"The superior technology offered by TSMC's 80nm-GC process has enabled us to achieve significantly higher performance and database capacity while minimizing power consumption," said Mo Maghsoudnia, vice president of manufacturing at NetLogic."

The NL71024 knowledge-based processor was specifically designed for the 80nm-GC process without tracing the traditional path of optically shrinking the design from another process.

"NetLogic Microsystems made a significant achievement by being one of the first to qualify to manufacture with our 80nm-GC process," said Jason Chen, vice president of corporate development at TSMC. "We have collaborated by combining our foundry process development and manufacturing capabilities with NetLogic Microsystems' silicon design expertise to help them bring to market products that power next-generation enterprise and service provider networks."
